New Delhi, February 23, 2025Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena has been appointed as the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. The decision was made after a meeting of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, party leader Gopal Rai confirmed.

Big Political Shift in Delhi

In the recent Delhi elections, the BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, ending AAP’s long rule. As a result, AAP will now serve as the opposition for the first time in years.

Atishi, who kept her Kalkaji seat, has promised to keep the new BJP government in check. “AAP will make sure BJP fulfills its promises, including the ₹2,500 monthly allowance for women by March 8,” she said. She also assured that AAP will fight to protect welfare schemes started by the previous government.

Atishi’s Role in AAP

Atishi has been an important leader in AAP. She worked as Delhi’s Education Minister before becoming Chief Minister in September 2024 after Arvind Kejriwal stepped down. She is known for improving government schools and public services in the city.

What Happens Next?

The new Delhi Assembly session starts on February 24, when Atishi will officially take charge as Leader of Opposition. With this, all eyes will be on how AAP challenges the BJP-led government in Delhi
